Help us to Help you!
The golf course is now open and there are no restrictions.
Following unprecedented rain fall over the past few weeks the fairways and greens are a lot softer then we would normally expect at this time of the year, as a result Winter Rules have been introduced.
It has been noticed that over this period the number of visible pitch marks on the greens have increased
If you have played a shot into the green IT WILL leave a pitch mark!
Please can I request that you repair your pitch mark on the green and any other that you see
The Greenkeeping staff are doing a fantastic job in keeping the course open,
so please help us to help you.
Repair your pitch marks on the greens and replace any divots on the fairways.
This would go a long way in keeping the course in better condition throughout the winter.
Winter Rules will come into effect from Monday 14 October 2019.
‘A ball lying on a closely mown area through the green (fairway) may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball, it must be placed on a spot within ‘1 club length’ (this is specific to SCGSC) of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green’.
See R & A Rules of Golf 2016: Course Condition
LOCAL RULE: GOLF BALL EMBEDDED IN THE ROUGH:
If your golf ball is found to be EMBEDDED in the rough, you can lift, clean and place, without penalty, as NEAR AS POSSIBLE to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. If this means that the golf ball is placed on the fairway, this is the ‘Rub of the Green’ and is permitted. R & A Rules of Golf: Embedded ball
The reason for this addition ‘Local rule’ is:
- Protecting the course.
- Fairness to all golfers.
- Request for this introduction last winter by several members.
- To maintain the speed of the round.
