Dear Member and Sports Centre user,
COVID- 19 and St Clements Golf & Sports Centre
Due to recent developments concerning the COVID-19 outbreak in Jersey and around the world, the golf course, golf Academy course, golf practice facilities, tennis courts and Padel Courts will be CLOSED from sunset today, Tuesday 24th March 2020.
This deeply regrettable, but highly necessary and responsible course of action is to protect our customers and staff and will be in force until further notice.
The golf course and facilities will continue to be maintained to the highest standard whilst our staff are still permitted to do so. We will look to re-open as soon as possible following both our internal judgement and government advice.
We will survive this enforced break but there will be significant pressures faced as there will be by many Island businesses. I would like to thank our loyal customers for their faith in us which is very much appreciated by management and our team here.
What would make a big difference to our ongoing situation is if green fee members that can pay their subs do so at the earliest opportunity. I simply ask that you please help support your facilities and our staff at this most difficult of times. We will greatly appreciate this and will work hard to ensure that when we reopen that the facilities are looking their very best for you.
The Reception Kiosk will only be manned periodically to check telephone messages and post. Should you need to contact the Reception office please use email: email@example.com
These are incredibly testing times, and it remains for me to wish you all the very best. Most importantly, please stay safe and healthy and together we will beat this, hopefully quickly so we can get back to some sense of normality.
It has been noticed that over this period the number of visible pitch marks on the greens have increased
If you have played a shot into the green IT WILL leave a pitch mark!
Please can I request that you repair your pitch mark on the green and any other that you see
The Greenkeeping staff are doing a fantastic job in keeping the course open, so please help us to help you.
Repair your pitch marks on the greens and replace any divots on the fairways.
This would go a long way in keeping the course in better condition throughout the winter.
‘A ball lying on a closely mown area through the green (fairway) may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball, it must be placed on a spot within ‘1 club length’ (this is specific to SCGSC) of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green’.
See R & A Rules of Golf 2016: Course Condition
LOCAL RULE: GOLF BALL EMBEDDED IN THE ROUGH:
If your golf ball is found to be EMBEDDED in the rough, you can lift, clean and place, without penalty, as NEAR AS POSSIBLE to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. If this means that the golf ball is placed on the fairway, this is the ‘Rub of the Green’ and is permitted. R & A Rules of Golf: Embedded ball
The reason for this addition ‘Local rule’ is:
- Protecting the course.
- Fairness to all golfers.
- Request for this introduction last winter by several members.
- To maintain the speed of the round.
